Originally formed as a duo-plus-drum machine following the split of Minnesota CDR mavens the Small Scores, the Metric Mile combine the wistful melodicism of bands like the Field Mice, the Wake, and Felt with a measured dose of modern technology.  After a year's post-graduate hiatus, founding members Patrick Smith and Jeff Ciprioni reconvened in New York in the waning moments of 2002, and began to build songs from the rough cassette demos they had continued to trade through the mail.  The Metric Mile's early live shows featured Smith on keyboards and Ciprioni on guitar and vocals, supported by the tick of the steadfast Max2000 drum machine, later to be replaced by an on-stage iPod.  In April, 2004, the band self-released the limited-run How to Beat the SAT EP, which was soon picked up by Alistair Fitchett's I Wish I Was Unpopular label as a handsomely packaged 3" CD.  Current activities consist of the ongoing recording of a full length album, and sporadic live appearances, including support slots for the two final Trembling Blue Stars shows in the Fall of 2005.  The duo became a trio recently when Peggy Wang, formerly of Home Ec (aka The Dares) enlisted to provide extra guitars, keyboards and vocals, and gently usher the iPod into retirement.
